Bayern’s Coman To Miss Arsenal Clash

Bayern Munich and France winger Kingsley Coman is poised to be sidelined for “several weeks,” which includes missing Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal, following a leg injury sustained in a 2-0 victory over Cologne, the club announced on Saturday.

Coman was assisted off the field early in the second half on Saturday, requiring the aid of two Bayern staff members as he was unable to put weight on his leg.

“Kingsley Coman will be absent from action for several weeks after sustaining an injury in his right adductor muscle,” Bayern stated, with the club’s medical department confirming this upon examination.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel stated that Coman would be absent for Wednesday’s second leg at home to Arsenal, with the forward’s participation in Euro 2024 also in jeopardy.

The first leg of Bayern’s European tie in London concluded 2-2 on Tuesday.

“It’s a significant setback that somewhat dampens the victory,” Tuchel remarked during the post-match press conference.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund mentioned that Coman “still needs to undergo some tests, but the outlook is not optimistic.”

“We hope the absence won’t extend into months. We’ll await the test results, but we anticipate him being unavailable for several weeks.”

Tuchel emphasized the need for his team to “give everything” against Arsenal on Wednesday, expressing hope that home advantage would prove decisive.

Coman had recently returned from a torn knee ligament that sidelined him from January to March.

Euro 2024, slated to be hosted in Germany, commences on June 14.
