Banky W, the singer and politician, has expressed his approval of the Election Petitions Tribunal’s decision to call for a rerun in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State.

He views this as an opportunity to rejuvenate democracy in Nigeria and considers the declaration of a rerun as something remarkable.

In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Banky W, who ran as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, stated, “It’s a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and the collective will of the people who want to participate in the rebuilding of this democracy.”

The tribunal’s ruling nullified the previous victory of Mr. Thaddeus Atta of the Labour Party, citing an inconclusive election, and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where elections were not held.

This decision was the result of petitions filed by Banky W and Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro (IBO) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Banky W emphasized the importance of allowing people to exercise their constitutional rights to vote and expressed concerns about incidents of violence, voter suppression, and INEC officers not showing up at some polling stations during the previous election.

He also appreciated the court’s decision to count every vote and hear every voice, regardless of political affiliation.
