ASKOMP mourns the tragic passing of 27-year-old media personality, Mubarak

The Association of Online Media Practitioners in Kwara State (ASKOMP) has expressed deep concern over the brutal killing of Yusuf Mubarak, a young and prominent media figure based in Kwara. He was affectionately known as ‘Authority.’

Mubarak went missing on Wednesday evening following his visit to ASKOMP members detained at the Kwara State Police Command in Ilorin. Tragically, his lifeless body was discovered in a private morgue on Saturday.

In a statement endorsed by ASKOMP’s Chairman, Salihu Shola Taofeek, the organization conveyed its profound sorrow at Mubarak’s untimely demise, praising him as a highly intelligent and promising young man.

“As a professional association, we are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Mubarak Yusuf ‘Authority,’ a brilliant friend and brother who met a tragic end shortly after visiting the Kwara State Police headquarters in Ilorin to show solidarity with two of our members detained since Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

“Mubarak was renowned for his exceptional writing skills and unwavering dedication to the principles of truth, transparency, and press freedom. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mubarak’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult period.”

“This regrettable incident serves as a stark reminder of the daily risks we all face due to recurring cult clashes, ritual killings, and other criminal activities that the state’s security forces have struggled to contain.

While acknowledging the Kwara State Governor’s call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of Mubarak’s death, we join in urging all law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice through a transparent and uncompromising process.”
