Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will be sidelined for “many weeks” after suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s 5-1 victory at Crystal Palace, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed on Monday.

When asked about the 23-year-old England international’s condition, Arteta responded: “It’s not looking good. He will be out for many weeks.”

Saka was seen leaving Selhurst Park on crutches after Saturday’s match, which had marked Arsenal’s second win over Palace in just four days. Arteta had mentioned after the game that Saka “felt something in his hamstring” and was unable to continue, expressing concern about the injury.

On Monday, Arteta also confirmed that Raheem Sterling had injured his knee and would also be unavailable for several weeks.

When asked if there were concerns Saka might not return before the end of the season, Arteta reassured, “No, I’m optimistic he’ll be back before the end of the season.” He added that this type of setback is a part of player development, saying, “It could have been much worse, but it’s how you react and overcome such situations that is key. This is a learning process for him.”

Saka has been instrumental in Arsenal’s attack this season, with five goals and ten assists in the Premier League. His absence will certainly be felt as the team looks to adjust.

Arteta said the club is already exploring ways to cope without Saka, recalling previous periods where they managed without key players like Martin Ødegaard and several defenders. “We’re staying positive and finding solutions,” Arteta added.

Arsenal, currently third in the Premier League and six points behind leaders Liverpool, will face relegation-threatened Ipswich on Friday.
