Appeal Court Upholds Natasha Akpoti’s Victory in Kogi Central Senatorial Election, Dismisses Opposition’s Appeal
Initially, INEC had announced Sadiku-Ohere as the victor with a slim margin of 369 votes, prompting Natasha to challenge the outcome.
The court of appeal in Abuja has upheld Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s victory in the Kogi central senatorial district election, overturning the earlier declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.
Initially, INEC had announced Sadiku-Ohere as the victor with a slim margin of 369 votes, prompting Natasha to challenge the outcome.
Following a petition to nullify Sadiku-Ohere’s win due to irregularities, the election petition tribunal had ruled in favor of Natasha, citing inflated results and omitted votes in certain polling units.
The tribunal corrected the results, declaring Natasha as the rightful winner with 54,074 votes.
Despite There’s appeal, the court dismissed it, confirming Natasha’s win and imposing a penalty of N500,000 against Ohere.
