Appeal Court Overturns Tribunal, Restores Abdullahi Sule as Nasarawa Governor
The three-member panel, led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, determined that the Tribunal erred by considering witness statements not submitted within the legally specified 21 days.
The Abuja Court of Appeal has overturned the Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule’s removal by the State Election Petitions Tribunal on October 2.
The three-member panel, led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, determined that the Tribunal erred by considering witness statements not submitted within the legally specified 21 days.
The Appellate Court emphasized that the Tribunal’s use of these statements, which were not front-loaded as required by law, resulted in an unjust election nullification.
The Court also ruled that the Tribunal unlawfully ignored jurisdictional issues raised during the petition hearing, denying the governor a fair hearing.
Consequently, all decisions against the governor were reversed, affirming Abdullahi Sule as the duly elected governor of Nasarawa State.
