Ansu Fati’s father slams Barca over lack of game time

Father to Barcelona’s number ten, Bori Fati blasts the Catalan giants for not giving his son enough playing time and advised him to move away in the summer.

Ansu Fati this season has seen 925 minutes in La Liga scoring 3 goals, achieving his last goal in October against Villareal.

He was announced as Lionel Messi’s replacement as the clubs’ number ten just before the 2021/22 campaign, but has been set back by injuries.

The Spaniard’s father went aggressive on the Barca coach for not using the 2020 talent.

Bori told news outlet COPE, “As a father, I am angry, yes, like any father. Because seeing Ansu play so little makes you a little angry. I tell them that we deserve much more.

“Ansu when he played before getting injured, there was Messi, [Luis] Suarez, [Ousmane] Dembele, [Antoine] Griezmann.”

“It bothers me that they give him a minute, two minutes, or three minutes.

“The forwards that are there are phenomenal, but we are talking about Ansu Fati, from the Spanish national team, he is not just any boy.

“He’s a boy who left La Masía. If you don’t give him that, what are you going to give him? Ansu deserves much more, we’re talking about Barcelona’s ’10.”

Meanwhile, Bori Fati said he would prefer if his son leaves the club in the summer, however, the 20-year-old has made it open that he doesn’t want to leave Camp Nou just yet.

“At Barca, they tell me that they bet a lot on Ansu, they tell me that clearly.

“When I sat down with Jorge Mendes [his representative], the first thing he told me was that Ansu wants to stay and will continue playing for Barcelona.

“But I, as a father, thought otherwise, and Ansu doesn’t agree with that,” Bori added.

“I think a lot about Sevilla, about going home. Right now I wouldn’t value an offer from Madrid, because Ansu wouldn’t accept it.

“I can’t put Ansu where he doesn’t want to go.

“But I will never speak ill of Madrid because they are two very big clubs and you never know what the world is going to bring you… You never know where it is going to take you.”

Earlier in the week, the forward’s father and football agent Jorge Mendes insisted that they want Ansu to leave Camp Nou and Barcelona President, Joan Laporta is willing to listen to offers

Nigeria’s Lookman scores hattrick as Atalanta win Europa League

Ademola Lookman scored a stunning hat-trick to lead Atalanta to a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League (UEL) final.

The Nigerian star was named player of the match as the Bergamo-based club became the first Italian team to win the UEL since its renaming in 2009.

Lookman netted twice in the first half and once in the second half at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, ending Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Three Nigerians participated in the final: Lookman spearheaded Atalanta’s attack, while Leverkusen brought on Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella as substitutes.

Atalanta started aggressively and opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Lookman fired Davide Zappacosta’s low cross into the top of the net.

The former Everton forward extended the lead in the 26th minute with an impressive goal, nutmegging Granit Xhaka before curling his shot into the top corner.

Lookman completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute, dribbling past a defender and blasting a shot into the top corner to seal a dominant final for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

Lookman is the first player to score a hat-trick in a UEL final and the first African to do so in a major European Cup final.

He became the seventh Nigerian to win the Europa League, joining John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses, and others as UEL champions.

Despite win over Everton, Arsenal Miss Premier League Title to Man City

Despite securing a 2-1 victory against Everton on the final day of the season, Arsenal fell short of claiming their first Premier League title since 2004.

Manchester City clinched the title for the fourth consecutive year. In a tense finale, Arsenal needed a win against Everton and for Manchester City to lose against West Ham to secure the championship.

However, despite their efforts and Kai Havertz’s late winner, Manchester City’s triumph over West Ham dashed Arsenal’s hopes.

The match saw ups and downs for Arsenal, including Idrissa Gueye’s deflected free-kick putting Everton in front, swiftly followed by Takehiro Tomiyasu’s equalizer.

Despite hitting the woodwork twice in the second half, Arsenal managed to find the winner through Havertz, albeit amidst controversy over a potential handball. Referee Michael Oliver eventually allowed the goal after reviewing the VAR footage.
