
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have organized an urgent gathering to address the current political upheaval in Rivers state.
The meeting, set to take place today at the Akwa Ibom state governor’s lodge in Abuja, aims to delve into the unfolding crisis in Rivers state and discuss the off-cycle gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.
Recently, a fire ravaged a section of the Rivers state assembly complex, escalating the political turmoil in the state.
The situation intensified with a brewing impeachment plot against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, marked by the removal and subsequent election of a new speaker in the house of assembly.
This led to the reported dismissal of all local government chairpersons and the dissolution of the state executive council.
Further complicating matters, Chibuzor Amadi, the state’s chief judge, was suspended by assembly members aligned with Fubara.
The governor himself claimed to have been shot at and teargassed by police while trying to access the assembly.
