Akinwumi Adesina Denies 2027 Presidential Ambition

Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has refuted claims that he is planning to run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.
His recent remarks in an interview with Arise Television sparked speculation about a possible political ambition. During the interview, Adesina stated that he would be available for national service after his tenure at AfDB, expressing willingness to serve in any capacity—whether globally, in Africa, or in Nigeria.
“I will be available to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country, Nigeria,” he had said.
Following media reports interpreting his statement as a hint at a presidential bid, Adesina took to X on Thursday to clarify that his words were misrepresented.
