Ajaka Urges IG to Arrest Attackers Following Supreme Court Incident

Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Kogi State, has urged the Inspector General of Police and other relevant security agencies to investigate a violent attack on him and his supporters.
The attack, allegedly orchestrated by Bashiru Gegu and his thugs, occurred at the Supreme Court in Abuja on Friday.
The incident followed a judgment by the Supreme Court’s five-member panel, which dismissed Ajaka’s appeal challenging the election victory of Usman Ododo of the All Progressive Congress, citing a lack of merit.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Ajaka condemned the attack, describing it as “an assault on democracy itself.” He called for a thorough investigation by the police and relevant security agencies to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
Ajaka stated, “In a democratic society, attacks on a governorship candidate for legally contesting a stolen mandate are inexcusable and will not be tolerated.”
Regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling, Ajaka expressed respect for the decision but rejected the outcome, maintaining his discontent with the judgment.
In contrast, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo celebrated the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election as the state’s governor. In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Isah, Ododo commended the judiciary for upholding justice despite numerous threats and attempts at blackmail.
