On 21st of December 2021, Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq approved the dualization of Yebumot Al-Hikma University-Adeta Roundabout-Oloje Road in Ilorin West LG and construction commenced in January, 2022.

According to reports, the dualization of the road, which is billed to be completed within the period of 10 months, was awarded to JMK Construction at the cost of N1.6bn.

The aim of the road project is to ease traffic gridlock, lessen travel time and support industrialization potentials of the state.

However, in the last 18 months, the road dualization from Yebumot Al-Hikma University to Adeta Roundabout has been constructed with drainage on both sides, while the median was also completed with interlocks and asphalt. Residents, transporters and other road users plying Yebumot-Adeta roundabout road have commended the Kwara State government for timely completion of the road.

As at August 2023, the road dualization from Adeta Roundabout to Oloje Road has been abandoned, the contractor has evacuated their construction trucks from the site only a truck is left at Adeta roundabout. While People’s shops and houses were demolished for the road expansion, the area is always floody whenever it rained due to lack of drainage and proper channel for erosion.

Meanwhile, Transporters, residents and road users in Ilorin have created an alternative way at Oloje junction, a part of the abandoned Adeta to Oloje road dualization project initiated by Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq APC led administration in Kwara State.

Gov Abdulrazaq approved the dualization of Yebumot Al-Hikma University-Adeta Roundabout-Oloje Road on 21st of December 2021 and construction commenced in January, 2022.

The completion spot of the road project, Oloje junction along Oko Olowo express way was blocked to stop transporters from using the road while construction is ongoing.

As observed by our correspondent, since construction has stopped, transporters and road users have created way on the route to ease stress, lessen travel time and save fuel for their daily movement as they don’t need to pass through a long route to reach their destination.

“We urged the government to help us complete this area on time because it is not convinient for us as it is,” road users said.

This report is in efforts to bring about significant improvements to infrastructural projects in Kwara state under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
