Afrobeats is nothing, lacks substance — Burna Boy Says

Afrobeats, according to Grammy award-winning artist Burna Boy, lacks substance and is essentially ‘nothing.’

The artist expressed his view that around 90% of Afrobeats songs don’t delve into real-life experiences, instead focusing on creating an enjoyable atmosphere that doesn’t reflect the complexity of life.

Burna Boy, known as the African Giant, shared these thoughts during a recent interview on Apple Music.

He argued that much of the music lacks genuine experiences that listeners can relate to, leading to a situation where many Nigerian and African songs prioritize entertainment over meaningful content.
