AFCON : Nigeria’s round of 16 opponent revealed

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are set to confront the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the second round of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. 

Sho Pen Online reports that Cameroon secured a 3-2 victory against the Gambia, scoring two late goals in their final group game at the Stade de Bouaké on Tuesday.

Karl Toko Ekambi’s deft header initially put Cameroon in the lead during the second half, but the Gambia responded with goals from Ablie Jallow and Ebrima Colley. 

The Lions equalized in the 87th minute with an own goal from James Gomes and completed the comeback with a stoppage-time glancing header from Cristopher Wooh.

Having finished second in Group C, Cameroon will face Nigeria on January 27 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan. 

The Super Eagles qualified for the round of 16, securing seven points in Group A with a draw against Equatorial Guinea and wins against Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.

This upcoming match revives the intense football rivalry between the two neighboring nations, having faced each other 25 times. 

Nigeria holds the advantage with 12 wins and 8 draws in their head-to-head record. In the last AFCON encounter during the 2019 edition, Nigeria won 3-2 on their way to securing a bronze medal.
