Aged 23, Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus has officially joined West Ham, marking a significant transfer deal estimated at £38 million ($47 million) on Sunday.

Kudus has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League team, becoming their fourth major acquisition following the conclusion of the previous season. Last season, the Ghanaian midfielder showcased his abilities by scoring 19 goals and contributing seven assists across various competitions for Ajax.

In a recent Europa League play-off match against Ludogorets in Bulgaria, Kudus displayed his prowess by netting a hat-trick.

Expressing his enthusiasm for this new chapter, Kudus shared, “Since childhood, I’ve nurtured the dream of playing in a league like this. This moment is a culmination of that dream, and I’m overflowing with joy.

However, this is just the beginning; my goal is to continue pushing forward. I aim to captivate fans with entertaining performances, as I believe that’s the essence of football. I’m eagerly anticipating the journey ahead.”

With 24 international caps for Ghana and participation in the previous year’s World Cup in Qatar, Kudus has established himself on the global stage. He had been associated with Ajax since 2020 and secured two Dutch titles during his time with the club.

West Ham had already secured the services of Kudus’s teammate Edson Alvarez earlier in the summer transfer window. Notably, England midfielder James Ward-Prowse and Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos have also bolstered the team’s roster at the London Stadium. These signings were made possible by the funds generated from the £105 million transfer of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

West Ham’s manager, David Moyes, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, “I’m thrilled that we’ve successfully brought Mohammed to West Ham. He’s an exceptional young talent who has already showcased his skills at the highest level in the Champions League with Ajax. Despite being just 23, he boasts a remarkable record of over 150 senior appearances. The interest from numerous top-tier clubs this summer doesn’t come as a surprise.”
