2023 Presidency: I’m best qualified aspirant, Amaechi says

The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has declared himself as the best presidential aspirant among others, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, APC national leader Bola Tinubu, and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Amaechi stated this on Monday when he consulted the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, regarding his presidential ambition.

“With due respect to my brothers in APC, PDP and other political parties, I am the most qualified in this present race.” He said.

The former Rivers state governor, who described himself as the bridge between the country’s young and the older generations, lauded Ogunwusi for preserving and upholding the Yoruba culture.

The minister added that he decided to start his consultation and visitation from Ile-Ife because “the ancient city is the source.”

Amaechi said: “If elected as Nigeria’s president in 2023, I will sit down with the National Assembly to address the relevance of the traditional institution in Nigeria. There is a need to consult our traditional rulers in order to bring governance closer to the people.”

The mimister during the visit opened up on why he ran round the stadium on his declaration day, saying: “Age will not be an issue. I am like a bridge between the young and the old.”

“People have asked me why I ran round the stadium, I was checking to see how fit I am, so I had to run round the stadium to confirm to myself that I’m strong enough to carry the problems of the country, whether it is mentally or physically.

“Because you need both mental capacity and physical fitness to manage this country.

“You have to be physically strong and have the mental capacity to make decisions on behalf of the country,” he stated.

Ooni in his response, described Amaechi as one of the luckiest politicians in the country, pointing out that Nigerians had a lot to gain from his wealth of experience.

“You have been relevant since the start of this republic. It is for a reason and I urge you to use that grace for the betterment of all Nigerians. What is obvious in your team is the inclusion of women. I am proud of this and I want you to keep doing more in this regard,” the monarch said.

“Women are so powerful, especially when given leadership opportunities, they see what we men do not see” Ooni concluded.
