2023: Oyetola orders political appointees with ambitions to resign

In compliance with section 84 (12) of the amended Electoral Act, which requires political appointees seeking elective positions to resign before participating in party primaries, Osun state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has directed all political appointees contesting for elective position in 2023 general election to resign their appointments.

This was contained in a statement released on Tuesday titled, ‘Notice to political appointees with interest to contest the 2023 general election’, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Oluwole Oyebamiji.

According to the governor, the concerned appointees must comply with the instruction with immediate effect.

“Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola the Executive Governor of Osun State has directed ALL Political Appointees in the state with interest to contest the 2023 General Elections to resign their appointments with immediate effect.

“This is sequel to the Executive Council meeting of Wednesday 13th April 2022 and the combined effect of Sections 84 (12) and 29(1) of the Electoral Acts 2022 as well as the Electoral timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“Notice is hereby given to ALL Political Appointees in Osun State to comply with the directive of Mr. Governor and the provision of the Law.” The statement read.
