The Elesha of Oke-Ode, Oba Abdulquadri Adelodun, Alebiosu II, has prayed for the materialisation of the dream of Comrade AbdulRasheed Akogun, one of his loyal subjects, to become a member of the 10th Kwara State House of Assembly in 2023.
Oba Adelodun gave the prayer in his Palace last Tuesday when Comrade Akogun and his campaign team visited him to formally inform him of his bid for the Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency seat under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and seek his royal blessings for the ambition.
The royal father expressed happiness that one of his subjects is eyeing the Assembly seat, pointing out that it is on record that no Oke-Ode indigene had ever gone to the State Assembly since the dawn of the Second Republic in 1979, after several unsuccessful efforts.
Oba Adelodun expressed optimism of the investigative journalist turned politician of securing his party’s ticket and eventually go on to win the general elections.
Earlier, Comrade Akogun had intimated the prominent traditional ruler of the reasons for his bid for the Share/Oke-Ode Constituency seat in the State House of Assembly.
He said his main concern is to provide effective representation that would guarantee the spread of the dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of the Constituency.
Comrade Akogun also told the royal father that he has always been a crusader for good governance and a practical advocate of the mass spread of societal good and social well being of the poorest of the poor in the society.
While disclosing that his past community service activities included distribution of teaching and learning aids to secondary school students in Ifelodun Local Government, the House of Assembly hopeful said that his party, the SDP, is in the best position to guarantee the spread of the dividends of democracy, as the two dominant parties in the state have failed the people.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 100 members of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress have joined the Social Democratic Party in Oke-Ode.
Receiving the decampees in Oke-Ode, Comr. Abdulrasheed Akogun assured the decampees of a level playing field, emphasizing that SDP is the party of the masses, adding that the party has come to right the age long maladministration and anti-masses posture of successive governments.
